Finally, La Roux have a new single.
The english duo composed of singer and writer Elly Jackson and producer Ben Langmaid has officially unveiled new material. 'Let Me Down Gently' is the first single from the synthpop act's sophomore album, after their critically acclaimed self-titled debut (2009). Due to be released on July 7 on Polydor Records, the new album will be titled 'Trouble in Paradise' and will have nine tracks.
After a hiatus during which they have recessed from the charts, Jackson and Langmaid worked on new songs and early interviews dating from 2012 saw the sassy vocalist describing the second album as something a lot cheekier than the first, with a sense of sexuality permeating its structure and the promise of acoustic elements mingled with the synthetic matrixes we have come to love in La Roux's sound. Afterall, five years later, songs like 'Bulletproof' and 'In for the Kill' still linger in our memories.
After presenting new songs from the upcoming album during live shows, the duo has now released 'Let Me Down Gently', a ballad that keeps playing with the retro mood featured on their previous songs, until a intense pause leads to a more vibrant avalanche of sweet synths and saxophone howlings that sound sexy and mature. It seems La Roux will sound more seasoned and even if the songs lack the "poppier" side of the first album, they will surelly present a more thoughtful songwriting and production, which will still be fun and rewarding. A wonderful comeback, one that makes us anxious to listen to the whole album.
