Kwabs - Something Right

We've been following Kwabs for a few months now; with the release of his first EP in last January, Kwabena Adjepong, better known as Kwabs, has made a strong first impression. This artist, born in Ghana but currently living in London, has one of the most wonderful voices you'll be hearing in 2014 (another one being Sam Smith's), a deep, steady and earthly roar that founds itself profoundly rooted in soul music but in love with somber electronic landscapes.

Bearing the hallmarks of electronic and synthetic experimentation, 'Wrong or Right', his first EP, has clear inflexions of jazz (afterall, he was a former student of it at the Royal Academy of Music), but there are also evidences of gospel, r&b and hip-hop that permeate through his music and sound like a fresh aproach to all of those genres. The EP was produced by SOHN (we reviewed his album, 'Tremors', a few days back) and, knowing so, it's easy to understand the richness and complexity of Kwabs' music.

Now, amidst working on his first album, Kwabs is releasing a second EP (on May 20th, on Warner Music), entitled 'Pray For Love'. Given the successful collaboration with SOHN, it's only natural that these new tracks are also produced by him. With four tracks, the EP will continue Kwabs' exploration of jazz and soul boundaries. While the title track sounds almost like a tribal chant where piano intrincacies put the song in celestial suspension, the new song 'Something Right' is a heavy percussive statement, with distortion ripping through its basis and dazzling synths reflecting like broken amethyst crystals.

Don't let Kwabs pass you by; listen to 'Something Right' and watch the videoclip for 'Wrong of Right', from his previous EP.
